Historic Cargo Event Scheduled for November 2-4, 2011
Thousands of air cargo and sea cargo industry leaders and experts will gather in Miami for a concurrent conference and exhibition on November 2-4, 2011. Executives from the major aviation, logistics and sea cargo corporations serving the Western Hemisphere are already lining up for the conference and exhibition sponsored by the Miami International Airport, the Port of Miami and the World Trade Center Miami.

The Port of Miami and Miami International Airport will again host Air Cargo & SeaCargo Americas. The ports, under the leadership of Bill Johnson and Jose Abreu have supported the event since its inception. Both men believe that the event will increase two-way cargo growth for the Americas by providing a world class forum on international aviation, maritime and logistics issues and showcasing the latest aviation, maritime and security products, e-commerce solutions, technologies and services.

Free Trade Agreement Colombia-Switzerland
May 20 – Negotiators of Colombia and Switzerland have concluded negotiations on a Free Trade Agreement to be signed in July 2011.

UPS says global trade is driving growth
May 19 – The US economy is growing in fits and starts, and the real driver for US companies is global trade, United Parcel Service Chief Financial Officer Kurt Kuehn said.

Colombia’s imports grew in first quarter 2011
May 17 – Imports in Colombia grew 38.3% during the first quarter of 2011, with imports from the United States ranking first with a growth of 42.9%.

TAM stretches United Kingdom-Brazil cargo leg
May 17 - The new service which will double its existing three-times weekly nonstop between London Heathrow and Rio de Janeiro on August 2, 2011. The six flights weekly will complement the airline’s existing daily service between London and Sao Paulo. The Rio de Janeiro service will be operated with A330s, while its existing service to Sao Paulo operates Boeing 777s, which offers much needed passenger and cargo capacity between the UK and Brazil.

Florida legislators pass bill adding removing duplicative seaport security
May 15 - State of Florida Legislation passes bill removing duplicative seaport security regulations and bill adding trade and logistics to Florida’s Qualified Targeted Industries (QTI). Bills now await signature of Governor Rick Scott.

ABC to develop more trans-Pacific routings
May 12 – AirBridgeCargo Airlines’ launch of a Chicago flight at the end of April made the Volga-Dnepr Group subsidiary the first all-cargo carrier to offer regular services between Russia and the U.S.

Agreement opens competition over South American skies
May 12 - The new agreement will increase the number of passenger and cargo flights between Colombia and the United States and boost competition in the market. The US Under Secretary of State, William Burns and Colombia’s Foreign Minister Angela Holguin, signed the accord this week in Bogota which will increase the number of flights between the two countries.

Panama and Peru agree on a Free Trade Agreementa
May 6 – Panama’s minister of Commerce & Industries, Roberto C. Henríquez, and Peru’s minister of Foreign Trade & Tourism, Eduardo Ferreyros, have successfully concluded negotiations of a Free Trade Agreement between the two nations.

Air France execs the latest to face cartel charges
May 4 - Two former executives of Air France have been charged with fixing surcharges on cargo shipments to and from the US. They face up to ten years in prison and fines of US$1 million if convicted.

Brazil airport plan may not fly before world cup
May 4 - Brazil has made an ideological U-turn to give private firms a new role in fixing its crowded airports in time for hosting the World Cup and the Olympics but it has not yet convinced investors it will play by the rules.

May 3 – Regardless that distance separates the two nations and that they speak different languages, authorities and impresarios of Uruguay and India met to investigate political and commercial ties.

IATA data reveals airfreight growth in March
May 3 - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has revealed that airfreight demand soared in March, growing 4.5 percent since February. What’s more, year-on-year-growth in the airfreight industry rebounded to 3.7 percent in March, 1.9 percent higher than February numbers..

World’s largest passenger plane coming to Miami
May 3 - Preparations are under way for the world's largest passenger plane to touch down at Miami International Airport. Lufthansa announced it will operate Airbus A380 flights between Frankfurt and Miami.

Boeing cites Brazil as future leader in Latin American aviation sector
May 3 - Boeing has projected that Latin American carriers will demand 2,180 new aircraft over the next two decades, outpacing the rest of the world in terms of aviation growth. But Boeing said the key nation contributing to this growth will be Brazil, which has an aviation market currently valued at $85 billion.

MEET THE CONFERENCE SPEAKERS & MODERATORS

Dr. David Blond, President, Queri International
Dr. Blond is an international trade economist with over 30 years of experience and broad experience in modeling economic data using multi-market and multi-commodity statistical techniques. He has developed large-scale global models covering macroeconomic, industrial, trade, and transportation specific concepts. Throughout his career, Dr. Blond has specialized in developing unique analytical frameworks designed to measure benefits against costs including risk based analysis techniques. These efforts have involved partial data sets, cleaning and filling in missing data, and developing quantitative analogues for qualitative factors.

Dr. Blond has held various positions at other consulting firms including MergeGlobal and DRI/McGraw Hill. Prior to consulting, Dr. Blond served as Senior Economist in the Department of Defense. He began his career with the United National Conference on Trade and Development (UNTAD) in Geneva. Dr. Blond received both a Ph.D. in International Economics and an M.A. in Economics from New York University.

Peter Scholten, Vice President Commercial, Saudi Airlines Cargo Company
Peter Scholten joined Saudi Airlines Cargo Company in October 2010 as VP Commercial. Peter began his career as Managing Director for Road Air Flora and Road Air Fresh, subsidiaries of TMI-Group, a leading freight forwarding group in the Netherlands. In 1996 Peter joined Martinair as Vice President Sales Europe and then was promoted to Vice President Europe & Africa in August of 1997. Between 2001 and 2002 he initiated Kencargo, a joint venture between Kenya Airways, KLM Cargo and Martinair, and later was Martinair’s Vice President for Asia/Pacific based in Hong Kong. After his tenure in Asia, Martinair moved Peter to Miami, Florida as Vice President & General Manager of the Americas. Also, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Tampa Cargo, leading the company back to profitability in 2007 and managed its sale to Avianca Airlines in 2008.

Peter has degrees from Jan Backx Transport College, Rotterdam and NEA Transport Management, Netherlands.
